At 1:18 p.m., firefighters responded to Hillcrest Drive for a report of a structure fire, the Boonton Fire Department said. Upon arrival, they were met with heavy smoke and fire, and declared a second alarm, requesting additional units to the scene, firefighters said.

Firefighters requested a tanker task force and additional water supply due to the area not being protected by fire hydrants, fire officials said.

The fire took 90 minutes to be declared under control, though the home was deemed unhabitable, firefighters said. No one was home at the time of the blaze and no firefighter was seriously injured, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, firefighters said.
